Marina Meister
After earning her degree in mathematics from ETH Zurich, Marina managed global projects for consulting and financial firms. Since 2020, she has been passionately committed to simplifying and improving the effectiveness of Switzerland’s social infrastructure and serves as president of the Association for Fair Social Infrastructure. In addition to serving on the boards of directors and trustees of various organizations, Marina is also politically active in Kilchberg and serves on the executive board of AWG Zurich (Working Group for Economy and Society).
You played a key role in shaping the social security system—what inspired you to get involved?
“Our social welfare system is complex, inefficient, and opaque. As a result, on the one hand, people are unable to access the benefits they are entitled to, while on the other hand, there are those who benefit from it too much. In short: the system is unfair. We can change that with Lebensvorsorge.”
What do you think is special about life planning?
“Every job is worthwhile. The working poor receive support. Social security is a social solution with a liberal approach; it is the stepping stone that enables everyone to reach their full potential—and all without additional costs.”
What role do you play?
“Together with a small team, we engage in dialogue with people and experts on implementation issues and effective communication, and seek support to further expand our alliance.”
How do you see the future of social security in Switzerland?
“Digitalization presents us with many challenges. Major changes are on the horizon in the labor market, and people will need to adapt. Social security offers a stable, simple, and fair system that fosters resilience in these volatile times—a system that promotes social cohesion among our population.”
